Some MDs are reluctant to take an MRI of your back injury. Insist on one.

Just imagine you’ve severely wrenched your back on the rig or the vessel and the doctor is reluctant to administer an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging scan) because of the cost to the company. This is no joke. There is no excuse for this attitude as an MRI is a basic test. The MD may delay the test and order some rest instead. Be forewarned: many back and neck injuries that could be repaired with early detection and treatment deteriorate into disabilities over time. An MRI can diagnose damage that an X ray cannot.  By the time you’ve finished “resting,” it may be too late.

Insist on an MRI scan and all available tests.
