Sinking fishing boat in Pacific Northwest highlights dangers of the job

It’s a fact that being a fisherman in the Pacific Northwest is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. This was reinforced on February 3, 2011 when the 80-foot vessel Vicious Fisher put out a May Day call as it took on water. Coast Guard helicopters and motor life boats were dispatched to the scene. Attempts to bail out the boat failed as the weather built to eight foot seas and winds up to 15 miles per hour. The five crewmembers were evacuated just before the boat sank. The accident’s cause is under investigation.
