A mariner has filed a negligence suit against BP America Production Co. and other defendants after a falling engine crushed his finger.
On Aug. 5, 2010, plaintiff Phillip J. Caulfield was employed as a seaman on the defendant's vessel. While the engine was being changed out, the vessel shifted, causing the suspended engine and it's A-frame to fall and crush his left index finger between the engine and the vessel, the lawsuit states.
DRC Emergency Services and Henry Dupree are other named defendants in the suit filed Aug. 5 in New Orleans federal court.
Caulfied seeks compensation for physical injuries, mental anguish, disability, maintenance and cure.
The defendants stand accused of failure to provide a safe working place, failure to warn of dangerous conditions, improper personnel or equipment for the job and several other actions.
