Seaman seriously burned on ship in the Gulf of Mexico

A crewmember who suffered serious burns on a cargo ship about 230 miles south of Galveston, Tx was medevaced on July 27.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call for assistance from the M/V Selje at approximately 8:00 a.m. The crewmember had been given initial medical assistance on the ship by an EMT.

Air Station Houston deployed a MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew. The injured seaman was medevaced to the Galveston Airport at approximately 1:00 p.m. and transferred to awaiting EMS. Aviation Training Center Mobile deployed a HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew for assistance.

The cause of the burns was not released.
