Seaman files million dollar lawsuit after falling from stairwell

An offshore platform worker has filed a negligence lawsuit against his employer after falling from an exterior stairwell.

Jerald Johnson seeks over $1 million in compensation from ENI US Operating Co. Inc. for mental suffering, permanent disability, loss of wages and earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, court costs and interest.

The lawsuit alleges that he fell off of the production side of the platform while working on the "Devil's Tower, causing serious injuries. No details were released on the exact nature of his injuries.

The Devil's Tower spar platform sits in 5,610 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico. Until 2010 it was the deepest spar in the world.

The suit was filed July 11 in federal court in New Orleans.
