Rig worker files suit after head injuries from improper welding

E.A. Collins & Sons is being sued because an improperly welded side step reportedly broke loose and struck a rig worker in the head.

Jorge Garza filed the suit May 27 in Jefferson County (Tx) Court.

Garza claims that on July 2, 2010, while working as a rig hand in the Beaumont area, a failure of a weld made by the defendant resulted in the step coming loose and hitting him in the head.

The suit states that the step being welded with hinges was a factor in the accident.

The defendant is charged with negligence.

Garza seeks damages for past and future medical expenses, loss of income, impairment, pain, mental anguish and court costs.
