Port Arthur seaman files Jones Act suit after icy deck fall

A seaman filed suit December 1 for slipping on the deck of his vessel. Cirino Lopez, Port Arthur, TX, alleges he suffered undisclosed injuries after falling on ice that had formed on the deck of the vessel Fat Jack. Lopez charges his employer, JBS Packing Co, with negligence for failing to install grating on the deck which would have reduced the possibility of ice accumulation.  He also accuses the company for operating an unseaworthy vessel and is asking for lost wages, medical expenses, mental anguish, as well as actual and exemplary damages. The case was filed in Jefferson County, TX court.
