Over 80 defendants named in seaman’s widow’s lawsuit over asbestos and tobacco exposure

Defendants from literally A to Z have been named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the widow of a merchant marine.

Almost 90 companies, from A-C Product Liability Trust to Zimmerman Packing & Mfg. Inc., are named in the suit filed by Katrine Davalie who claims that her late husband Tookie A. Davalie died from pulmonary disease caused by exposure to asbestos, cigarettes and tobacco.

The complaint states that the decedent constantly breathed in carcinogenic asbestos fibers and second hand cigarette smoke.

The plaintiff, including the estate, asks for damages for loss of earnings and earning capacity, a life in fear of cancer and other diseases while living, pain and suffering, punitive damages, death, loss of love, affection and support, interest, court costs and attorney's fees, among other damages.

The case was filed July 9 in New Orleans federal court.
