Offshore Oil Rig Workers Protected by the Jones Act

Most people are aware of the fact that the United States is one of the top oil producing countries in the world. As a matter of fact, there are an estimated 1,828 oil rigs in the country. However, with that amount of oil rigs comes the risk of injury for those who work on oil rigs. As you are probably aware of, working on an oil rig can be dangerous and lead to serious, life-altering injuries.

There are many causes of offshore accidents. Numerous accidents are caused by equipment failure, poor training, exposure to chemicals and unsafe working conditions, to name a few. A lot of times, maritime workers suffer injuries as a result of negligence on the part of someone else, including the vessel owner.

A serious oil rig accident can have major ramifications for a maritime worker. The injury may prohibit the worker from performing work duties.  It may even lead to a possible loss of wages and high medical bills.

It is important that all maritime workers, especially those who work offshore, to understand that there are federal laws that help protect them if they have been injured in an offshore accident. The Jones Act is a federal law that allows injured seamen to pursue compensation for their maritime accidents.

If you or someone you know has been injured while working offshore, you should contact an experienced maritime accident attorney at the Law Offices of Vujasinovic & Beckcom P.L.L.C. at (713) 224-7800 or (877) 724-7800.
