It's not unusual to see a double digit number of companies listed as defendants in asbestos lawsuits.
For example,
in a case filed June 28 in Jefferson County (TX) District Court, 18 companies were named in an asbestos suit filed by Juanita Keith Hutto on behalf of her late husband Jimmie Jefferson Hutto. The suit states that he died from an asbestos-related disease.
The defendants are: A.W. Chesterton Company, American Optical Corp., Anco Insulation, Asten Group, CBS Corporation, D&F Distributing, Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation, General Electric Corporation, Guardline, Ingersoll Rand, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Owens Illinois, Oxy USA, Sepco Corporation, Tin, TexasGulf, Union Carbide Corporation and Zurn Industries.
In another asbestos-related case filed July 9 in New Orleans federal court, Almost 90 companies are named in the suit filed by Katrine Davalie who claims that her late husband Tookie A. Davalie, a career seaman, died from pulmonary disease caused by exposure to asbestos, cigarettes and tobacco.
The complaint states that the decedent constantly breathed in carcinogenic asbestos fibers and second hand cigarette smoke.
