Neck injuries are common offshore

Neck injuries are common in the maritime industry because of heavy lifting and demanding work. This is particularly true on jack-up rigs, supply boats, drill ships and semi-submersibles. Neck pain can be prolonged and force you off of work.

It can take weeks to recover from a neck injury. After being diagnosed the doctor may recommend local heat application and rest but if the pain persists for more than two weeks you may need physical therapy.
Don’t ignore the pain because the damage could become permanent. One type of pain may be dull with weakness or numbness running down the shoulders and arms. This is typically caused by a herniated, or bulging, disc. Sometimes there is no pain at all, just a weak sensation.

Neck injury symptoms include the following:

-Stiffness
-Neck soreness
-Headache
-Tingling
-Blurred vision
-Nausea
-Pain, weakness or numbness in the arm
-Stiffness
When should you seek immediate medical treatment?:
-Light sensitivity
-Severe numbness or tenderness in the neck
-High fever

The Jones Act will help you get adequate medical attention and compensation for your neck injury.
