Mississippi vessel medic claims disabling injuries in Texas accident

Houston-based Rowan Companies has moved to squash a Jones Act lawsuit filed by a medic for serious injuries he reportedly suffered aboard a vessel.

Curtis Woulard of Mississippi claims he sustained back and leg injuries while working aboard the Rowan ship called Gorilla II on Jan. 26, 2009 in operations in Sabine, Texas.

Woulard filed the Jones Act case in Jefferson County, Texas approximately six months later, seeking sufficient maintenance and cure which the company refused to pay, thus entitling him to punitive damages, the case file states.

Rowan claims it did pay all required maintenance and cure payments and filed a motion for summary judgment Feb 1.
