A seaman alleges he contracted a skin condition because of the lack of safe drinking water and unsanitary conditions on the vessel.
The suit was filed June 23 in New Orleans federal court by Lonnie Costello against Gisclair Towing Co. Inc. for negligence.
Costello says there was no water filtration system for proper hygiene on the M/V Nancy Gisclair, resulting in the skin disorder and infection.
Gisclair is accused of allowing a dangerous condition to exist on the vessel and promoting and allowing dangerous and unsanitary practices.
Costello seeks $500,000 for physical and mental pain and anguish, body scarring, loss of bodily function, embarrassment, maintenance and cure, court costs and interest.
