Lafayette Workboat Rentals named as defendant twice in one week

Broussard, Louisiana-based Lafayette Workboat Rentals faces two lawsuits filed against it within five days.

On April 29, Steven Roe filed a Jones Act suit for head, back and shoulder injuries allegedly suffered after being flung into a structure aboard the M/V The Rock after a towing strap snapped. The company is accused of negligence for failure to safely operate the vessel, lack of crew training and improper crew supervision.

On May 4, the parents of Brandon Sentell Mouton filed for negligence against Lafayette after he reportedly fell off the deck of one of their barges in the Gulf of Mexico on July 22, 2010. His body was never recovered and he is presumed lost at sea.

Both cases were filed in New Orleans federal court.
