Just why did a tug capsize while moored in a Norfolk yard?

Nearly one week after it happened, there are still no reports as to what caused a tug to capsize—while moored—at a Norfolk, VA yard.

The National Response Center reported the event at the 6M Dominion Terminal Yard to Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads at 5:54 a.m. Monday, March 8. Almost 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled from the tug Susan Ann, which capsized at the facility near the Campostella Bridge.

The Norfolk Fire Department used absorbent pads to control the spill before Coast Guard and Accurate Marine Environmental personnel arrived. The tug owner was making efforts to recover approximately 700 gallons of fuel.

The Coast Guard continues to investigate what caused the tug to capsize.
