The body of a 31-year old woman was found after the charter boat in which she was on overturned during a thunderstorm in Turtle Bay. The woman was a tourist from Indonesia who was not a strong swimmer.
Eleven people were rescued from the water after the incident, but the woman was missing for several hours. Police initiated extensive air and water search operations, but found it difficult due to poor weather conditions.
The 10-metre vessel, “Rupture”, was towed to Hamilton Island to continue the search when police divers located her body on the boat itself.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
