Houston energy comp. surprised its minor leak caused huge oil slick

Since Friday, Houston-based Anglo-Suisse Offshore Partners filed Coast Guard incident reports stating that a minor leak had spilled less than five gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Anglo-Suisse went so far as to report that some oil discharged during robotic submarine operations to plug its supposedly small leaking well 30 miles southeast of Grand Isle, La.

Now, it says it's "surprised" that the well in question ended up causing oil to wash up on a 30 mile stretch of beach.

For the past few days the media speculated on what might have caused a miles-long sheen in the Gulf. Some reports indicated it may have come from silt that was dredged around the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Anglo-Suisse has admitted responsibility and will have to pay for the cleanup costs.
