Holland America passenger airlifted off Alaska

A Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a cruise ship passenger near Juneau, Alaska on the evening of Aug. 23.

A 70-year-old male passenger aboard the 625-foot Holland America ship Statendam was reportedly suffering from symptoms of congestive heart failure.

First, the patient was transported from the vessel by small boat to awaiting EMT personnel in the town of Gustavus.

He was transported to a local airport where an MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter and crew deployed from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka airlifted him to Bartlett Regional Hospital for additional care.
