Fishing boat hit in collision off Mass. coast later sank at the pier

In an update to a story we posted on Jan. 18, it has been reported that the fishing boat MICHAEL BRANDON eventually sank at the pier in Scituate, Massachusetts. The boat was a 51-foot aluminum hulled vessel fishing 20 miles southeast of Hull, MA when it collided with the 620-foot cargo ship West Bay at 5 p.m. on Jan. 11.Three fishermen were rescued by the Coast Guard and the boat was towed to the pier. However, the damage was too much to repair and the boat sank.

Three fishermen and their boat were pulled to safety by the Coast Guard after colliding with a bulk carrier 20 miles southeast of Hull, MA at 5 p.m. on Jan. 11.

The West Bay was carrying a load of salt for New Orleans and was ordered back to Boston while the Coast Guard investigated the cause of the collision.
