There are many safety factors that all cruisers must consider before boarding a ship. One factor includes the increased risk of getting sick while cruising.
Medical experts conclude that it is common for colds and other illnesses to get passed around in crowded situations. There are many scenarios onboard cruise ships where cruisers find themselves shoulder to shoulder with other travelers, such as in dining rooms, ship casinos, bathrooms and elevators.
These tight quarters are perfect conditions for the transmitting of respiratory viruses, since these illnesses can easily be spread by touching another person’s hands or from droplets produced by coughs and sneezes.
These germs and viruses can also be dangerous for elderly passengers since older people sometimes have weaker immune systems. A respiratory infection can quickly turn to pneumonia.
In other instances, a cruiser can become injured or become a victim of a gastrointestinal illness outbreak as a result of the negligence on behalf of the cruise ship staff.
