Deepwater Horizon companies going after each other in court

Not surprisingly, BP Plc is blaming other companies for the Deepwater Horizon explosion and Gulf oil spill. The company has filed a $40 billion lawsuit against Transocean, the owner of the rig, for allegedly causing the blowout that killed 11 workers and triggered the Gulf oil spill. BP cites the failure of every safety system and well control procedure. BP is also suing Cameron International which manufactured the blowout preventer on the basis that the device's faulty design produced an unreasonable level of risk that harm would occur. Transocean and Cameron filed countersuits against BP. BP also filed suit against cement contractor Halliburton for allegedly committing fraud, negligence and hiding material facts connected to its work on the platform.
