Deckhands Are Often Protected Under the Jones Act

If you are a deckhand, you know how tough the job can be. You are also aware of the inherent risks associated with the maritime industry.  Rough seas, unpredictable weather and negligence on the part of your employer can all lead to a serious injury.

Whether you were injured on a tug, barge or fishing boat, a serious maritime accident can change your life. It can devastate your family’s financial future for years to come.

If you were hurt while working as a deckhand, you need to understand that you might be considered a seaman and therefore may be protected under the Jones Act. This means that you have rights and might be entitled to compensation, known as maintenance and cure.

Sometimes accidents involve negligence.  In those cases, the injured deckhand might also be able to pursue financial damages for loss of income, medical bills, pain and suffering, disfigurement and more.

For more information and to obtain answers to your questions, contact an experienced maritime attorney at the Law Offices of Vujasinovic & Beckcom P.L.L.C. at (713) 224-7800 or (877) 724-7800.

Be sure to order a FREE copy of the book, The Insider's Guide to Winning Your Maritime Injury Case. It has information you need to read, as an injured deckhand.
