Cruise worker medevaced off of Massachusetts coast

A 35-year-old crewmember with abdominal pain was airlifted from a cruise ship off the Massachusetts coast on July 28.

Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a call for assistance at approximately 6 p.m. from the 965-foot ship Norwegian Dawn.

After the flight surgeon determined that there was insufficient medical care on the vessel, Air Station Cape Cod dispatched a rescue helicopter which hoisted the crewman up from the ship about 46 miles southeast of Nantucket. He was transported to a Cape Cod hospital.

This was the 64th maritime medical transport completed by Air Station Cape Cod since January 11, 2011, according to a Coast Guard press release.
