Carnival settles with woman for $125,000 for broken leg

It’s just bruised, just walk it off,” 67-year-old Elizabeth Reimer says a Carnival employee told her about her leg after it had been trapped between the tender boat and dock in Grand Cayman Island.

“When they said (that), I thought maybe I could walk it off,” she remarked.

Instead, her leg was broken.

The accident happened on her April cruise aboard the Carnival Conquest from Texas to the Cayman Islands. Passengers in Grand Cayman must embark and disembark from the pier by way of a tender boat operated by Caribbean Marine Services.

Reimer, of Texas, suffered a broken tibia that required plates and bolts, her attorney said. Her injury forced her to spend the cruise in a wheel chair; she has suffered from nightmares ever since, she said.

The company settled with her for $125,000.

They gave her a two-for-one certificate good for another cruise. She would much rather stay at home, said her attorney.
