The only final settlement payment made by BP from the Gulf oil spill compensation fund is a $10 million payout to an undisclosed company that it admits it intervened on its behalf.
Meanwhile the other 91,000 persons and businesses that have applied for final settlements have received nothing.
According to fund administrator Kenneth Feinberg, checks for the remaining applicants will begin to be dispersed sometime this month. He admitted that the $10 million payment was never even reviewed because BP made an outside deal and instructed the fund to disperse the money.
Meanwhile, thousands of persons have been forced to struggle by on small stop gap payments while they wait for their settlement.
