Barge strikes Mississippi River bridge

Investigators says a combination of wind and human error cause a tug-barge unit to smash into a support piling of the Sunshine Bridge in Louisiana Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at 3:22 a.m. on the Mississippi River in an area between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. No injuries were reported and the incident did not stop traffic. According to the director of Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security, there was no damage to the piling.

Though the barge carried a load of fuel oil, the Coast Guard reported no pollution.
