Arrest made 8 years after deadly Texas boating accident

Late one Friday in 2002, Justin Roberts, 18, and two friends were out fishing in their small boat on Lake Buchanan in central Texas. Roberts was supposed to graduate high school in three weeks but his life was cut short on the lake when a speed boat crashed into the group. His body was pulled out of the water four days later. Kelly J. Corbin and Jim Daniels, the two friends, suffered concussions and other injuries.

Corbin, 19, who was Roberts’ girlfriend, was knocked unconscious and was rescued from the smashed boat. Daniels, 17, floated for nine hours in a life jacket before being saved.

For eight years after the accident the responsible party had been at large. State game warden Jim Lindeman conducted more that 800 interviews and ran down leads all over the state trying to crack the case. There were countless rumors about boats being sunk, burned, buried and cut into pieces.

Earlier this month, officials, acting on a tip, arrested Travis Aaron Marburger, 36, with manslaughter in the boat crash. Authorities are searching for at least one other person they believe was in the boat that ran over Roberts’ boat.
