Anti-Piracy task force advice to hostages: Don’t take drugs!

First, the EU Naval Task Force (EU NAVFOR) blamed mariners for being hijacked because they haven’t followied best management practices.  Now, to rub sea salt into the wound, they offer the following piece of advice:

“Khat is a common drug used in the Somali region.  If the pirates onboard your vessel use this or other drugs, you should be careful to avoid any confrontations whilst they are under the influence of such substances.  You should not be tempted to take drugs, other than legitimate medical conditions, whilst in captivity.”

Meanwhile at least 30 ships and over 500 mariners are presently held by Somali pirates.
