Just one day after a Texas man was killed in a Gulf of Mexico crane collapse, a Jones Act lawsuit was filed by a seaman for injuries suffered in an earlier crane accident.
Daniel Laxson, Conroe, Tx., filed suit on Aug. 17 against Atlantic Marine Equipment, Towing Management and the M/V AET Explorer for suffering serious neck and back injuries from being hit by a crane. The incident occurred June 29 while Laxson was aiding the M/V AET Explorer.
He seeks compensation for physical impairment, severe pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, maintenance and cure and other damages.
The defendant stands accused of failure to properly train and supervise crew members, inadequate safety equipment and violations of Coast Guard, OSHA and MMS rules.
The case was filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division court.
On Aug. 16, Brandon Michael Noland of Katy, Tx. died from blunt force trauma after a crane collapsed on a platform about 75 miles south of Port Arthur. His memorial service was held Aug. 20.
