A look at the Hercules Offshore corporate structure

Hercules Offshore is hardly the only maritime company that operates in a labyrinth of INCs," LLCs, foreign and domestic registries. But because of this particular conglomeration’s appearance as a defendant in numerous personal injury lawsuits under different entities, it is informational to present its organizational structure.

Since 2008 there have been at least 75 personal injury claims filed against this marine services company and its entities. 23 were filed in 2008, 40 in 2009 and 12 so far in 2010.

A study on its elaborate organizational structure can be found in the single case of Trent C. Bryant v. Chevron, Seacorp, Hercules Offshore Inc., Hercules Offshore LLC, Hercules Drilling LLC, and Hercules Liftboats LLC.  Filed in 2006, Louisiana resident Bryant allegedly sustained serious debilitating injuries in bad weather while working for the defendants.

According to the court filing, Bryant suffered physical pain and mental anguish, medical expenses and impaired earnings capacity on a permanent basis.

A good portion of this particular filing is dedicated to a description of the various Hercules’ entities named as plaintiffs. Offshore Inc is listed as a foreign corporation. Offshore LLC is a Delaware company. Drilling LLC is a foreign business. Liftboats LLC is a foreign outfit doing business in Texas with an office in Louisiana.
